Just like Gregg Hughes before me, I officially call myself a see-r.

Boring. The First Contact War had a grand total of three engagements.
1. A turian patrol destroys an exploratory group.
2. A small turian contingent occupies nearby border colony Shanxi after a brief skirmish that ends in surrender.
3. Humanity sends the Second Fleet and dislodges the turian force at Shanxi.
After that, the Council intervened when they noticed the entire turian military mobilizing to obliterate humanity from the galaxy. By then, about 600 people died on each side. That does not a compelling game make.

It'd make for a good iPhone game.

I just finished the game today. Other than the decisions the final mission was not entirely different from, although easier, than the mission on the Collector ship. Since that play-through was as an Infiltrator and on Veteran I'm not sure if I want to make my New Game + on Insanity or start a new game with a different class.
Every time I see a video from the game it sounds off to hear the Shepard voice coming from a different looking character.
Also, playing this game has made me want to revisit KotOR2.

Done right, this part alone could make a good game.

That brings up another point: the verisimilitude in this game is fantastic. In many games, the Dirty Harry reference would be the end of the joke, if they even got that far. In Mass Effect, a hanar anti-defamation league has formed to protest the exploitation film for using the word "jellyfish" in the title, which they consider an ethnic slur.

Wasn't that just a "vid", like a James Bond thing? (edit) Okay, I thought so. I am glad they revisited the Elcor Hamlet joke from the first game.
I have a question though. Are heavy weapons more useful in higher difficulties? Other than the Thresher Maw I always downed enemies with the sniper rifle. I just cycled through them all on Husks to trigger the achievement. I just couldn't bring myself to use the finite resource.
(edit again, and spoilers I guess) Is there any way to save any of the crew in the final mission besides Dr. Chakwas?

Pretty much. Depending on what youre using, its good for groups too. And the Colossus. And The Reaper Larva. I imagine you picked up alot of "100 Credits" from containers, which would have been Heavy Ammo, were you not full of it already. So ammo wasnt quite as scarce as it seemed. Unless you only used the Cain after getting it.
Plus, most classes dont have sniper rifles. The only ones I think that have it are Soldier and Infiltrator. So I imagine its more useful to other classes.

I haven't started yet but I will preemptively state that Cain is mandatory for Insanity.

No, rocks fall, everyone dies. TPK.
But seriously, buy all ship upgrades, do the loyalty missions, and use your head when assigning roles.

I had almost the entire crew post-game, save for I think one guy who obviously died during the taking of the ship.

I didn't lose a single squad mate, but continuing the game (I'd already done all the N7 missions but hadn't finished talking to Legion) the ship was completely empty besides the squad characters and Doctor Chakwas.
I used the Cain against the Thresher Maw, other than that the Assassination Cloak plus the Anti-Material sniper rifle did plenty of damage. Early on I relied on the sniper rifle but later on in the game I found myself saving it for the tougher enemies and just rushing normal enemies with the cloak and submachinegun.
I did get a ton of 100 credit things because I didn't use Medigel either. It was a bit disappointing that they didn't give more credits since I was short 250,000 credits from buying everything available at the stores.
