So while we were out the other night going from one bar to another, my roommate's girlfriend decides she's going to hop an iron fence with spikes on it that surrounds a parking lot. In heels and skinny jeans.
Anyway, she nearly clambers over it, but when she pushes off to clear the fence, she doesn't quite make it, and a spike cuts through her right rear pocket and slips under her waistband, suspending her there. Having approached her anticipating disaster, and her boyfriend standing rather dumbfounded, I managed to lift her off the spike and set her down on the other side. A large flap had been opened on her jeans, so, pausing to give my roommate enough time to regard this situation, I gave up and handed her my sweatshirt. She was then able to leave through the wide open gate just around the corner.
Fortunately, she was very good humored about the whole thing, laughing all night about it. When we passed by it many hours later, we stopped to take a look and found several earrings on the other side where she had landed. I hopped over the fence easily, picked them up, and returned them.
So yeah, I just posted about how awesome I am.
To counterbalance that: I heard something climb onto my roof last night at 3am, and kind of scratch around. I was fairly certain it wasn't human; it was too light-footed and didn't seem to have a clear goal in mind. Either way, I listened for a while, then finally decided to have a look. Armed with a flashlight, a folding knife, and a phone to call an ambulance for myself after this inevitably went sour, I found nothing.
Oh yeah, and this whole time, I was pretty good and scared, so there's that. In unrelated news, I've suddenly become very interested in purchasing my first firearm, not that I would ever be so irresponsible as to direct fire over my house, but still.

I've been living in Branson for about a month now, and I'm mildly miserable. It's nice to be near my parents, but I'm pretty lonely here - I don't have any friends in the area. My job is okay on a good day, but more days than not, it makes me feel pretty miserable. Mostly it's incredibly depressing to work with poor people in a rural setting...it feels a little hopeless at times.
I've decided to replace my free time with a second part time job at Lane Bryant, because I'm so bored here I'd rather work than be alone at home. There's a big part of me that's resentful of that, because I'm on my way to becoming a workaholic like my mother. It seems pretty sad that I'm filling my free time with work, but they have an excellent employee discount, and the extra money will help me pay off my debt faster.
So basically, I've decided that living here will be very temporary and I'm going to give it a year. Then I'm moving far, far way from here.

Talked to my friend for the first time since he deployed to Afghanistan. I've no doubt he's gotten into some hairy situations, even seen some shit that he'd rather he didn't have to see, but all that does is make it more difficult to tell when he's embellishing for effect. I really wish he wouldn't do that.

Car broke down, managed to fix it for $50 (crankshaft position sensor was old and moved out of position, so the engine kept dying). Landlord wanted us out this weekend so other folks could move in next week, had to tell him our place fell through, and we had to find another one that won't be open until the 1st, one day after our lease is up.
It's a nice place, stainless steel kitchen, new appliances, bedrooms on opposite sides of the hall so there's less chance of me overhearing that most private of human activities. Location kind of sucks, but the complex is mostly young people, students, newlyweds and so forth.
Going to Chicago on business next week, then school starts week after that. Busy, busy, busy.

I got a new job working in management at a major insurance company! It pays better and it's got a great path into upper management but managing middle aged employees as a 23 year old presents some interesting challenges.
