So 93 out of 100 Senators just decided to approve a bill which would allow the indefinite detainment of American citizens without trial and authorize the US military to operate on American soil

Discuss.

You know, one of the things I thought would be OK about Obama being president, is I thought, "Well, at least Obama will restore habeous corpus to non-US citizens." And then he refused to do it, the spineless bastard.

When I go ranting to my family about this shit, they seem to have absolutely no clue as to why habeous corpus for "other people" matters. Well, I think I'm going to send them a link to this, and say, "This is why it matters."

Worse yet, this particular bill applies even to American citizens. The Udall Amendment, which would have at least protected citizens, was rejected 38-60.

They're two separate issues. Bloomberg is posturing like he always does, and like most reactionary anti-gun people do whenever a gun tragedy happens. I get that the article writer doesn't like how thuggish the police can be, he just picked a weird thing to juxtapose it with.

If cops go on strike, citizens would find their guns put to use more than they'd care to. I can't imagine it would encourage them to relinquish them.

Yes, a big role of guns is to fill in the void the lack of an officer presents.

Especially when lag is involved.
