"Jamming With Edward" references an album featuring three members of the
Rolling Stones with Nicky Hopkins.
Subaru Sumeragi finally gave me a
name to put to those famous line drawings that MPU copies. According to Subaru:
"Well, the drawings (especially the weird looking bird) were made by the Nazca
civilization in ancient South America. They're called the Nazca lines and
they're made with pebbles. They can only be seen from the air so no one knows
what their significance is. The largest one is a 900-foot long (275 m) hummingbird made around 500 A.D."
Among MPU's Nazca drawings is the Long Man of Wilmington, an old and mysterious
landmark in England. Here's a good page
with some pictures of the real thing as well as some history, if you're interested.
MPU is a reference to Hal from "2001: A Space Odyssey".
The Yuri Kellerman character (the guy on the news broadcast who claims that
aliens are responsible for the earth carvings) is a double-reference. First,
the name is based off of the real-life name of Uri Geller, a psychic. Ironically,
Uri Geller is in the process of suing Pokemon because of the Pokemon form
"Un Gellar"; I wonder if he's thought of suing Sunrise? ;) The look and voice
of "Yuri Kellerman" is also a reference to the character actor Peter Lorre.
If you notice any references that I missed, I would appreciate
it if you e-mail me.
